Is Book of Ra Legal Where You Live?
Book of Ra itself is a licensed, certified game. Whether you may play it for money depends on your country: you need a casino licensed there and you must meet the age limit. Some countries add rules that change the game — stake caps, no autoplay, no feature buys — and Austria still has an online casino monopoly.
Country overview
In the countries we cover, regulated online casinos exist everywhere except Austria (monopoly) and most US states. Age limits are 18, or 21 in the US. Each country page explains the local details with sources.

Germany: the strictest rules for online slots
Licensed German online slots must cap stakes at €1 per spin, wait five seconds between spins and offer no autoplay. A national system, LUGAS, limits deposits to €1,000 per month across all licensed sites, and OASIS blocks self-excluded players. Feature buys and stake-funded jackpots are not allowed.
The GGL began reviewing these rules in 2026, and some reports mention higher stake tiers. We have not seen an official change yet; the German page will be updated when one is confirmed.
Austria: monopoly in transition
Austria’s online casino licence belongs to Österreichische Lotterien, which runs win2day — and Book of Ra is listed there. A reform of the Gambling Act was sent to the European Commission in August 2026; industry press expects new online licences from October 2027 at the earliest.
United States: state by state
Real-money online casinos are licensed only in a handful of states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan. Greentube entered the US market in 2021, but we have not confirmed Book of Ra in a US casino lobby. Outside those states, real-money online slots are not licensed.
What “legal” means for you as a player
- Your deposits are held under the regulator’s rules.
- Your identity and age are checked, which protects you and minors.
- You can complain to a regulator if the casino does not pay.
- Responsible gambling tools and self-exclusion are mandatory.
- Game rules and RTP information must be available.
Problems and what to do
Check your national gambling regulator’s website for licensed operators before playing anywhere.
Usually those of the country you are in while playing. Casinos check location.
That is exactly the risk: no regulator protects your money there.
Questions
Is it illegal to play Book of Ra?
Playing the game is not illegal in itself. Playing for money at a casino that is not licensed in your country can be illegal for the operator and, in some countries, for the player.
Is the Book of Ra demo legal?
Free demos without money are not gambling in most countries. Greentube still restricts its demo to adults.
Why is Book of Ra different in Germany?
The German State Treaty on Gambling sets a €1 maximum stake, a five-second minimum spin time, no autoplay and a cross-site deposit limit for licensed online slots.
Can I play Book of Ra in the USA?
Online casinos are licensed in only a few states, and we have not confirmed Book of Ra with US operators. Elsewhere in the US, real-money online slots are not licensed.
